Though her professional career was in computer science, Maria
developed a strong interest in the arts at an early age. As a
child, classical music was a part of her life. Starting in grade school she
developed into an accomplished flautist.
Then in college, through her fine arts courses, she both enhanced
her musical knowledge and developed an appreciation of other fine
arts, which she kept throughout
her career.
She graduated with a bachelors in math at St. Louis University
and a masters at the University of California, Berkeley, and entered
the computer profession.
Her
35 years in this field included work on the shuttle system
at NASA and on various Department of Defense programs, and a position
as a systems engineer at the Bank of America, where she retired in
2006. With time on her
hands and a husband, Bob, who shared her appreciation for fine art,
she decided to join him in a more active artistic role and try her hand at painting.
With
only a few months of experience behind her, Maria is enjoying the
new adventure. Her classes
in oil under Ava Freeman have given her a foundation, and her recent
workshop with Tom Lynch has allowed her to add watercolor
to her painting skills. She as registered for and is looking forward to a summer
watermedia workshop under
Stephen Quiller. She is anticipating many years improving her
artistic skills.
Today
Maria lives south of Dallas, Texas, with her husband, Bob. They spend much of the summer in Creede, Colorado,
and locally find great recreation at their cabin at Lake
Whitney.
Maria
hopes that in viewing her art you will see the beginnings of an
ability to draw from that which is beautiful all around us and
create something that is uniquely her own. |
